Description
According to historical facts, the revolution was proclaimed in the monastery of Agia Lavra at Kalavrita, when on March 25, 1821, German III of Old Patras "an Orthodox Metropolitan of Patras" raised the banner of the Revolution and swore allegiance to it.
It was recorded as a fact by some contemporaries of the Revolution as well as in later studies it was depicted in a famous painting by Theodoros Vryzakis and acquired an important place in the official Greek national narrative, as it associated religion with the revolution and identified national and religious identity.
The jewelry designer Dimitrios Exclusive was inspired by the gold-plated ornate cufflinks, by Ioannis Kapodistrias, who had ordered ten pocket watces from a Swiss watchmaker in order to donate them to important personalities of the Greek revolution. The watch he donate to Theodoros Kolokotronis bears the emblem that depicts the mythical bird Foinikas that it regenerate from its ashes and the date of the begining of the greek revolution 1821. depicting the palm bird and the glorious date of the beginning of the Greek Revolution 1821.
